In South Korea, Seoul has now made a new law that bans the consumption and sale of dog meat. President of South Korean animal welfare group Catch Dog, Jeung Seung-yons said many groups worked together to increase the awareness about the consumption and sale of dog meat and 205 dog farms and 5000 dogs were reduced since 2019.

Nowadays most Koreans do not eat dog meat. However, some elderly people believe eating dog meat can make them healthier during summer. Another reason why Koreans used to eat dog meat was because they did not have enough meat and food sources back in the time.

Fortunately, Korea developed a lot. 6 million people own pets and treat their pets like a real family member. People see eating dog meat as a cruel thing and now Koreans can access many kinds of meat, which makes no need to eat dog meat. Most people agreed to ban the dog meat industry but the people who disagreed were the people who were involved in the dog meat industry such as restaurant owners and farmers. People who protect animals said they will not going to stop until the three years of grace period pass and became an actual law.

Korea is developing in many ways and they especially pay more and more attention to animals. Now, Korea can join countries that banned dog meat. I hope animals can be protected as much as they can!
